Why Murphy Massage & Spa

Everything here is built around the hour you actually get

Plenty of places will put you on a table. Fewer will ask where the pain started, remember it next time, and give you every minute you paid for.

01
Licensed, insured, and continuously trained

Every therapist on staff holds a current Texas massage therapy licence through TDLR, and our estheticians are state-licensed as well. We carry our own liability coverage and we'll show you a licence any time you ask.

02
You're matched to a therapist, not a time slot

Tell us at booking what's bothering you and we'll put you with the person on staff who handles it best — whether that's the therapist who works with runners or the one certified in prenatal.

03
Sixty minutes means sixty minutes of hands on

Intake, undressing and aftercare happen around your session, not inside it. If your appointment card says ninety minutes, that's ninety minutes of bodywork.

04
Pressure is a conversation, not a setting

We check in early and we mean it. Lighter, deeper, skip the neck, spend the whole hour on the left hip — say the word and the session changes.

05
No membership required, no script at the desk

Memberships exist because regulars asked for them. Nobody is going to talk you into one on the table, and nobody is going to sell you a product line on your way out.

06
Ten years down the road, and we live here too

Lily has run Sunflower Massage in Wylie for a decade; Murphy is her second spa, seven minutes west. Our regulars come from Maxwell Creek, Rolling Ridge, Brookside and half of Plano, and we treat that the way you'd treat a neighbor.

We'll tell you what to book.

Most people don't know the difference between deep tissue and sports massage — and they shouldn't have to. Find the sentence that sounds like you.

“My lower back has been locked up for weeks.”Chronic tightness needs slower, deeper work and a therapist who knows when to back off. Book ninety minutes so there is room to treat the hip that is probably causing it.Deep Tissue “My neck and shoulders are wrecked from my desk.”Desk posture is our single most common complaint. Sixty minutes focused on neck, shoulders and upper back does more than a whole weekend of stretching.Signature Massage “I'm pregnant and nothing is comfortable.”Side-lying, fully bolstered, with therapists trained specifically for pregnancy. Safe from the second trimester on, and cleared with your provider first.Prenatal Massage “I train hard and I'm not bouncing back.”Recovery work built around what you actually do — hips and hamstrings for runners, shoulders and forearms for lifters and racquet players.Sport & Recovery “My skin looks tired and flat.”Usually dehydration and dead-cell buildup, not aging. A hydrating facial with gentle resurfacing brings the light back in one visit.Hydrating Glow Facial “I'm breaking out and I'm well past my teens.”Adult congestion responds to consistency, not aggression. Our clarifying facial pairs careful extractions with a routine you can actually keep up.Clarifying Facial “We want a few hours to ourselves.”Our couples suite takes two tables side by side, and the half-day retreat adds a body polish, a facial and a quiet room with tea between treatments.Couples & Packages “I need a gift and I don't want to get it wrong.”A dollar-value gift card never expires and works on every service, every package and every product. Delivered by email in about a minute.Gift Cards
Who we are

We opened the spa we couldn't find here

Lily Huang has been a licensed massage therapist for more than a decade. For ten of those years she has owned and run Sunflower Massage in Wylie, a few miles east of here — long enough to watch the industry squeeze good bodywork into shorter and shorter sessions while the front desk got louder and louder.

Murphy Massage & Spa is the correction. Rooms that are quiet because they were built to be. Therapists paid well enough to stay, so the person who learned your back last spring is still here this fall. A menu you can read without a decoder ring, and prices printed where you can see them before you're lying face down.

If a guest leaves feeling like they were processed instead of treated, we got something wrong.

Inside the spa

The small things you only notice when they're missing

Six rooms, none of them next to the lobby

Treatment rooms sit down a hallway behind two doors, with insulated walls between them. You will not hear the phone ring or the guest checking out.

Warmed tables, bamboo linens

Every table has a heating pad under organic bamboo-blend sheets, and every set is laundered at commercial temperature between guests. Extra blankets are always available.

Two showers, fully stocked

Towels, robes, slippers, shampoo, a hairdryer and somewhere to put your things. Book a body treatment on your lunch break and go back to the office looking like you didn't.

A couples suite that fits two properly

Two full-size tables with room to walk between them, dimmable light and its own sound. It also works as a mother-and-daughter room or for two friends who booked together.

A quiet room, and tea that isn't an afterthought

Come fifteen minutes early and sit with a cup of something warm. After your treatment you're welcome to stay as long as you like — nobody will hover.

Fragrance-free on request

Migraines, pregnancy, chemo, or you just don't like lavender. Ask for the unscented protocol and we'll use a neutral base oil and skip the diffuser in your room.

“You cannot relax in a room where you can hear the phone. So we built rooms where you can't.”

Your first visit

Nobody should feel underdressed and underinformed

If you've never had a professional massage, here's exactly what happens — including the parts nobody explains.

Step one
Book, and tell us the truth

Online or by phone. The “anything we should know?” box is the most useful field on the form — injuries, surgeries, pregnancy, allergies, or simply which side hurts.

Step two
Arrive fifteen minutes early

Short intake form, a cup of tea, and two minutes with your therapist to agree on the plan. Then they step out while you get on the table under the sheet.

Step three
You stay covered the whole time

You undress to your comfort level — many guests keep underwear on. Only the area being worked is uncovered, and it's re-draped before your therapist moves on.

Step four
Get up slowly, drink the water

Your therapist leaves the room, you dress at your own pace, and we'll go over what we found and what to do at home. Rebooking is optional and always will be.

Common questions

Before you pick up the phone

Everything else is on the full FAQ.

No. You undress to whatever level you're comfortable with, and plenty of guests keep their underwear on. You're under a sheet the entire session, and only the area being worked is ever uncovered. Your therapist leaves the room while you get on and off the table.

It can be intense, but it should never be something you have to brace against. There's a difference between pressure that feels productive and pressure that makes you hold your breath — the second one causes your muscles to guard, which undoes the work. Tell your therapist to ease off. Good ones want to hear it.

Yes, generally from the second trimester onward, with your obstetrician's clearance. We use side-lying positioning with full bolster support rather than a table with a cut-out, and the session is handled by a therapist with prenatal training. If your pregnancy is high risk, bring written clearance and we'll work with your provider's guidance.

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are usually available within a day or two. Evenings after 5:00 pm and Saturdays book out roughly one to two weeks ahead, and December fills faster than that. If you want a specific therapist, book further out.

We accept HSA and FSA cards and can provide an itemized receipt. Whether massage qualifies as an eligible expense depends on your plan — most require a letter of medical necessity from your physician. We're happy to give you the documentation; the eligibility call is between you and your plan administrator.

We ask for twenty-four hours' notice. Inside that window we charge fifty percent of the service, and a no-show is charged in full — your therapist held that hour and turned other guests away. Life happens, though. Call us and talk to a person.

Massage Therapy in Murphy, Texas

Licensed therapists, a full hands-on hour, and pressure that changes the moment you ask. Whether you're carrying a desk job in your neck or training for a half marathon, there's a table here set up for it.

Choosing a modality

Ten names, one honest question

What do you want to be able to do tomorrow that you can't do today? Sleep through the night. Turn your head to back out of the driveway. Get through a run without your hip complaining. Answer that, and the right service picks itself.

If you're not sure, book the Signature Relaxation Massage and say so at intake. Our therapists are trained across every modality on this page and can shift the work mid-session — deeper on the left shoulder, lighter everywhere else, the whole hour on one hip if that's where the problem lives. You will never be charged more for a session that changed direction.

Most booked · 60 / 90 / 120 min

Signature Relaxation Massage

Our house version of a Swedish massage: long, warm, unhurried strokes with medium pressure, working the whole body from scalp to feet.

This is the session for a nervous system that hasn't been off in a while. Your therapist works at a pace that lets your body actually let go — long gliding strokes to warm the tissue, kneading through the big muscle groups, and slow sustained pressure anywhere that's holding. Most guests are asleep by the twenty-minute mark, which is exactly the point.

It is not a light massage. Medium pressure at this pace reaches more tissue than a fast, hard hour ever will, and you'll leave loose rather than sore.

Best for
  • Stress, poor sleep and general tension
  • First-time massage guests
  • Full-body maintenance every four to six weeks
  • Anyone who finds deep tissue too intense
What we use
  • Warmed table and organic bamboo linens
  • Unscented jojoba base, or your choice of essential oil
  • Bolsters under ankles and knees

Clinical · 60 / 90 / 120 min

Deep Tissue & Clinical Massage

Slower, more specific work aimed at the layers under the surface — for tightness that has been there long enough to feel normal.

Deep tissue is not the same as hard pressure applied quickly. Your therapist works across the grain of the muscle, holds pressure until the tissue releases rather than forcing through it, and spends real time on the two or three areas that are actually causing the problem. A ninety-minute session gives room to treat the cause as well as the site — low back pain that starts in the hips, neck pain that starts in the chest.

Expect to feel it the next day the way you'd feel a good workout. Drink water, move gently, and tell us at your next visit what changed.

Best for
  • Chronic low back, hip and shoulder tightness
  • Desk and driving posture
  • Old injuries that never fully settled
  • Guests who ask for “as deep as you can go”
What to expect
  • Ninety minutes if the problem has a cause somewhere else
  • Mild soreness the next day, gone within forty-eight hours
  • Notes written up so the next session picks up where this one left off
  • Assisted stretch afterwards to hold what we opened up
  • 60 minutes$70
  • 90 minutes$120
  • 120 minutes$140
A note on pressure. If you're holding your breath or gripping the table, it's too much — and it's working against you, because a guarded muscle can't release. Say something. It is the most useful thing you can do for your own session.
Focused · 60 / 90 min

Pain Relief Massage

One or two problem areas, the whole session, at whatever pressure that area can actually take today.

This is the session to book when you can point at the problem. A shoulder that won't rotate, a neck that seizes on the drive home, a low back that has been loud for a month. Your therapist spends the hour there and on whatever is feeding it, rather than covering the whole body.

It differs from deep tissue in intent rather than depth. Deep tissue is about reaching the lower layers; pain relief is about a specific complaint, and sometimes the right pressure for that is light.

  • 60 minutes$80
  • 90 minutes$125
Fully clothed · 60 / 90 min

Thai-Style Massage

Assisted stretching and rhythmic compression along the body's energy lines. You stay dressed, there's no oil, and you finish feeling longer rather than softer.

Your therapist uses palms, forearms and feet to compress and rock the muscle, then moves your limbs through stretches you could not reach alone. It is more active than a Swedish massage and considerably more effective for hips, hamstrings and shoulders that have stopped moving properly.

Wear something you can move in — leggings or shorts and a t-shirt. Socks stay on.

Best for
  • Stiffness and restricted range of motion
  • Anyone who prefers not to undress
  • Desk workers with locked hips
  • Guests who find oil massage too passive
Skip it if
  • You're pregnant — book prenatal instead
  • You have osteoporosis or a recent injury
  • You've had a joint replacement
  • You want to fall asleep on the table
  • 60 minutes$80
  • 90 minutes$125
Flowing · 60 / 90 min

Lomi-Lomi Massage

Long, continuous forearm strokes in the Hawaiian tradition — less a sequence of techniques than one unbroken movement across the body.

Where a Swedish massage works region by region, Lomi-Lomi travels: a single stroke may run from shoulder to hip without lifting. The rhythm is the point. Guests who find their mind wanders during a conventional massage tend to go quiet during this one, because there is no start and stop to follow.

Pressure sits in the medium range throughout. If you want deep, specific work, book deep tissue instead — this is a different thing entirely.

  • 60 minutes$80
  • 90 minutes$125
Winter favourite · 60 / 90 min

Hot Stone Massage

Heated basalt stones used as an extension of the therapist's hands — heat does half the work, so the pressure can stay gentle and still go deep.

Smooth volcanic stones are held at a carefully monitored temperature, placed along the spine and through the palms and feet, and then worked directly over the muscle. The heat opens the tissue before any real pressure is applied, which is why guests who find deep tissue too sharp often get more out of this. It's also the single most effective service we offer for cold hands and feet and for the kind of full-body ache that arrives with the first cold snap.

Best for
  • Deep relaxation without deep pressure
  • Stiffness that's worse in cold weather
  • Guests who run cold on the table
  • A gift for someone who has “had a massage before”
Not suitable if
  • You're pregnant — book prenatal instead
  • You have neuropathy or reduced heat sensation
  • You have uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • You're on medication that affects heat tolerance
  • 60 minutes$85
  • 90 minutes$130
Certified therapists · 60 / 90 min

Prenatal Massage

Side-lying, fully bolstered, and handled by therapists with specific pregnancy training. From the second trimester through the week you deliver.

We don't use tables with a cut-out for the belly — they look accommodating and they put strain on the ligaments they're meant to relieve. Instead you lie on your side supported by a full body pillow, a wedge under the bump and a bolster between the knees, which is both safer and considerably more comfortable. Your therapist works the low back, hips, glutes and shoulders, plus the calves and feet where fluid tends to settle.

Most guests come every two to three weeks through the third trimester. Bring your provider's clearance to the first visit — a text or a note is fine.

Helps with
  • Low back and sacroiliac pain
  • Hip and round ligament discomfort
  • Swelling in the ankles and feet
  • Sleep, and the general business of carrying a person
How we keep it safe
  • Second trimester onward, with provider clearance

Recovery work · 60 / 90 min

Sport & Recovery Massage

Built around what you actually do. Faster, more targeted, and combined with stretching and range-of-motion work rather than pure relaxation.

Tell us your sport and your calendar and we'll shape the hour accordingly. Runners get hips, hamstrings, calves and feet. Lifters get thoracic spine, lats and forearms. Golfers and tennis players get rotation — hips, obliques, shoulders. If you have an event coming up, timing matters: lighter and faster within forty-eight hours of race day, deeper and slower in the weeks before it.

This session includes passive stretching and, where useful, focused friction work across a specific tendon or attachment point. It is the most conversational service on the menu, and it should be.

Best for
  • Runners, cyclists and triathletes in training
  • Lifters with shoulder or hip restriction
  • Golf, tennis and pickleball players
  • Weekend athletes who feel it on Monday
Timing around events
  • Four or more weeks out — deep and corrective
  • One week out — moderate, no new soreness
  • Within 48 hours — light flush only
  • Day after — recovery work, gentle to moderate
  • 60 minutes$80
  • 90 minutes$125
  • The Reset — sport massage, stretch and reflexology$155
Light touch · 60 / 90 min

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Very light, rhythmic, directional strokes that encourage lymph fluid to move. It feels like almost nothing while it's happening, and like a great deal afterwards.

Lymph has no pump of its own; it relies on movement and muscle contraction. When you're sedentary, recovering from surgery, travelling, or dealing with seasonal puffiness, it can slow down. This session uses feather-light pressure in specific sequences to guide fluid toward the lymph nodes, starting at the neck and clavicle and working outward.

Guests are often surprised by how gentle it is. Resist the urge to ask for more pressure — heavier hands collapse the vessels this technique is designed to open.

Commonly booked for
  • Post-surgical swelling, once cleared by your surgeon
  • Fluid retention and puffiness
  • Long-haul travel and long stretches at a desk
  • Feeling heavy and sluggish without a clear cause
Please tell us if
  • You have congestive heart failure or kidney disease
  • You have an active infection or fever
  • You have a history of blood clots
  • You're under an oncologist's care
  • 60 minutes$80
  • 90 minutes$125
Two therapists, one room · 60 / 90 min

Couples Massage

Two tables, two therapists, one quiet room with a door that closes. Choose any two services from the massage menu — they don't have to match.

One of you can have deep tissue while the other has the signature relaxation. One of you can be face down for the whole hour while the other spends twenty minutes on their feet. The only thing you share is the room, the timing and the quiet afterwards.

It's the most requested service for anniversaries and birthdays, and it works just as well for a mother and daughter, two friends, or a couple who simply never get an hour in the same room. Book at least a week ahead — the suite is one room and weekends fill first.

  • 60 minutes — two guests$140
  • 90 minutes — two guests$240
  • The Couples Retreat — 90 min plus a facial each$295

Reflexology

Sustained thumb and finger pressure applied to specific points on the feet, ankles and lower legs. You stay dressed, you stay in a chair, and you leave feeling like you've had a full-body massage.

Whatever you make of the reflex-map theory, the practical effect isn't in dispute: an hour of deliberate, precise pressure on the feet is profoundly relaxing, and it does real things for people who stand all day, who have plantar fascia pain, or who simply cannot switch off.

It's also the most accessible thing we offer. Nothing to undress, no oil, no table — which makes it a good first step if traditional massage feels like a lot, and a good option during pregnancy when other things are off the table.

Best for
  • Nurses, teachers, stylists — anyone on their feet all day
  • Plantar fasciitis and tired arches
  • A first treatment if you're nervous about massage
  • Pregnancy, at any stage, with provider clearance
Good to know
  • You stay fully clothed throughout
  • Done in a reclining chair, not on a table
  • No oil, so you can go straight back to work
  • Thirty minutes is genuinely enough to feel it
  • 30 minutes$50
  • 60 minutes$70
Table-based · 30 / 60 min

Assisted Stretch

Your therapist moves you through a sequence of held and resisted stretches on the table. You do nothing except breathe and, occasionally, push back.

Assisted stretching reaches ranges you cannot get to alone, because someone else can hold the position while your muscle decides it's safe to let go. Sessions focus on hips, hamstrings, thoracic spine and shoulders — the four areas that quietly limit almost everything else.

It works best directly after a massage, when the tissue is already warm. Sixty minutes of deep tissue followed by thirty minutes of stretch is the most effective ninety minutes on our menu for anyone with a genuine mobility restriction.

Best for
  • Hips and hamstrings that never seem to loosen
  • Overhead shoulder restriction
  • Golfers and anyone who rotates for a living
  • Holding the gains from a deep tissue session
What to wear
  • Comfortable clothes you can move in
  • Leggings or shorts, and a t-shirt

The pressure question

Nobody wins a pressure contest

The right pressure is the deepest one your body can receive without bracing. Here's the scale we use, and what to say to get what you want.

Level 1–2
Light

Barely more than gliding. Used in lymphatic work and for guests who are in pain, very new to massage, or recovering. Say: “stay light.”

Level 3–4
Medium

Where most of the Signature Massage lives. You feel the work clearly, you can breathe normally, you could fall asleep. Say: “medium, a little more on my shoulders.”

Level 5–6
Firm

Deliberate, slower, occasionally uncomfortable in a way that feels productive. This is real deep tissue. Say: “that's the spot — hold it there.”

Level 7+
Too much

You're holding your breath, tensing away, or counting down. Nothing therapeutic happens here. Say: “back off about twenty percent.”

Massage questions

The things people ask at the desk

For general stress and maintenance, every four to six weeks holds most people well. For an active problem — a shoulder that won't settle, low back pain that keeps returning — weekly or fortnightly for four to six weeks does far more than the same number of sessions spread across a year, then you can taper. If you train seriously, every two weeks in season is a reasonable rhythm.

No, and please don't shave right before. Freshly shaved skin is more sensitive to oil and friction. Your therapist has genuinely never noticed and genuinely does not care.

All three, constantly. Falling asleep is the best compliment you can pay a therapist. Ticklishness usually means the pressure is too light — ask for more and it stops. And a growling stomach means your parasympathetic nervous system has switched on, which is precisely what we were going for.

Not at all. Tell us at the start if you'd prefer a silent session and your therapist will only speak to check pressure or ask you to turn over. Plenty of guests talk for ten minutes and then go quiet. Both are completely normal.

Sustained pressure creates a small, controlled inflammatory response in tissue that hasn't moved properly in a while — similar to the day after a hard workout. It typically peaks around twenty-four hours and clears by forty-eight. Water, a warm shower and gentle movement all help. Sharp pain, bruising or soreness lasting more than three days is not normal; call us.

Please reschedule if you have a fever, an active infection, a stomach bug or anything contagious — massage moves fluid around and can make you feel worse, and it isn't fair to your therapist or the next guest. We waive the cancellation fee for illness every single time. Ask us, don't guess.

Tipping is customary but never expected, and it's never mentioned to you at the desk. If you'd like to, fifteen to twenty percent of the full service price is the usual range. Members tip on the standard price, not the discounted one. You can add it to the card or leave cash — both go entirely to your therapist.

Seven facials · licensed estheticians

Facials & Skin Care in Murphy

Professional-grade treatments and honest advice about your skin — including the visits where the right answer is “do less, and do it consistently.”

How we work

Every facial starts with a real look at your skin

Before anything touches your face, your esthetician cleanses, looks at your skin under a lamp, and asks what you're using at home. The treatment is chosen after that — not before.

Skin in North Texas takes a beating. Nine months of air conditioning, hard water, cedar season, and a summer that dehydrates everything it touches. Most of the “aging” people come in worried about turns out to be dehydration and barrier damage, and it improves faster than anyone expects.

You will leave with a written note of what we did, what we saw, and two or three things to change at home. You will not leave with a bag of product you didn't ask for.

Start here · 60 minutes

The Murphy Facial

Our signature treatment, customised on the table. Double cleanse, gentle exfoliation, extractions if you want them, a mask chosen for what your skin is doing today, and a long facial and décolleté massage.

This is the facial to book if you've never had one, if it's been years, or if you simply want an hour of being taken care of. It suits every skin type because it's built for you in the room rather than pulled off a shelf. Extractions are always optional — some guests want them every time, others never do, and neither is wrong.

Includes
  • Skin analysis under a magnifying lamp
  • Enzyme or gentle acid exfoliation
  • Steam and optional extractions
  • Custom mask, serum, moisturiser and SPF
  • Facial, neck, shoulder and hand massage
Best for
  • First facials and long-overdue ones
  • All skin types, including sensitive
  • Maintenance every four to six weeks
  • Gifting to someone whose skin you don't know
  • 60 minutes$80
For dull, tight skin · 60 minutes

Hydrating Glow Facial

A layered hydration treatment for skin that looks flat, feels tight by lunchtime, and has stopped catching the light.

Dehydrated skin is not the same as dry skin — oily skin gets dehydrated too, and often over-produces oil because of it. We resurface gently to clear the dead-cell layer that's dulling everything, then layer hyaluronic acid, a nourishing mask and a barrier-repair cream while the skin is still damp so the water actually stays in. Finished with a cool globe massage to bring down any redness.

The difference is visible the same day, and holds for two to three weeks with a decent routine at home.

Best for
  • Dull, tired-looking skin
  • Tightness, flaking and rough texture
  • Post-summer or post-travel recovery
  • An event in the next week
Pairs well with
  • Dermaplaning for maximum product penetration
  • A collagen eye and lip mask (+$20)
  • Any 60-minute massage the same visit
  • The Half Day package
  • 60 minutes$90
Acne & congestion · 60 minutes

Clarifying Facial

For congestion, blackheads and adult breakouts. Careful, patient, and deliberately not aggressive — because aggressive is what keeps most people stuck.

Adult acne rarely responds to stripping the skin. We use a salicylic or mandelic cleanse, warm steam to soften the follicle, and unhurried extractions with proper technique — only what will come out cleanly, never forced. A clay or sulphur mask calms the surface, and we finish with a lightweight barrier moisturiser and SPF.

If you have active cystic acne, we'll be honest with you: this treatment supports what a dermatologist prescribes, it doesn't replace it. We're glad to work alongside your provider.

Best for
  • Congestion, blackheads and closed comedones
  • Hormonal jaw and chin breakouts
  • Oily, reactive or maskne-prone skin
  • Backs and shoulders — ask about the back treatment
Please tell us if
  • You're on isotretinoin or have been in the last six months
  • You use prescription retinoids
  • You've had a peel or laser in the last two weeks
  • You're pregnant or nursing
  • 60 minutes$90
  • Series of four$325
Firming · 75 minutes

Age-Renewal Collagen Facial

Our longest facial, built around peptides, growth factors and a collagen sheet mask — with fifteen extra minutes of lifting massage that does more than any single product on the tray.

Fine lines are mostly a hydration and collagen story, and both respond to consistency. This treatment resurfaces with a lactic acid exfoliation, infuses a peptide serum with gentle microcurrent-free massage, and seals it under a collagen sheet mask while your esthetician works your neck, shoulders and scalp. Cold globes and a firming eye treatment finish it.

A single session leaves skin visibly plumper for about a week. Booked monthly for three months, the change in texture is the part guests notice.

Targets
  • Fine lines and loss of firmness
  • Dull tone and uneven texture
  • Crepiness around the eyes and neck
  • Skin that's stopped responding to your usual routine
Good to know
  • No downtime — you can go straight to dinner
  • Safe alongside injectables, two weeks either side
  • Book seven to ten days before an event, not the day before
  • Monthly is the rhythm that changes texture
  • 75 minutes$110
  • Series of three$300
Resurfacing · 60 minutes

Dermaplaning Facial

A sterile blade held at an angle removes dead surface cells and vellus hair. Skin is instantly smoother, makeup sits flat, and everything you apply afterwards absorbs far better.

It sounds alarming and it is completely painless — most guests describe it as a light scraping sensation. There's no downtime and no redness beyond a mild flush. We follow with a calming mask, serum, moisturiser and SPF, because freshly resurfaced skin needs sun protection more than usual.

And no, the hair does not grow back thicker or darker. Vellus hair has no ability to change into terminal hair; it returns exactly as it was in three to four weeks.

Best for
  • Rough texture and dull tone
  • Makeup that clings or looks patchy
  • Pre-event glow, seven days ahead
  • Pregnancy — one of the few safe resurfacing options
Skip it if
  • You have active, inflamed acne or pustules
  • You have a cold sore or open lesion
  • You've used a prescription retinoid this week
  • You have a recent sunburn
  • 60 minutes$100
Sculpting · 60 minutes

Gua Sha Sculpt Facial

Traditional stone tools worked along the lymphatic pathways of the face and neck. Less about product, more about drainage, circulation and the muscles under the skin.

Puffiness around the eyes and along the jaw is usually fluid, and fluid moves. A full hour of gua sha and lymphatic facial massage — jaw, temples, brow, neck and clavicle — visibly defines the face and releases the clenching most people carry in their masseter without noticing. It is the treatment we recommend for TMJ tension and for anyone who wakes up puffy.

  • 60 minutes$95
Short on time · 30 minutes

Express Facial

A cleanse, exfoliation, quick mask and moisturiser in half an hour. No extractions, no massage, no downtime.

Designed for a lunch break, for the day before an event, or alongside a massage so you can do both in a single visit. It's also the least intimidating way to try a facial if you've never had one.

  • 30 minutes$50
  • With a 60-minute massage (Facial & Full Body)$120
Back and shoulders? Congestion doesn't stop at the jawline. Our 45-minute Back Rescue Treatment is a full clarifying facial for the area you can't reach, at $75.
Between visits

Four things that matter more than anything we sell you

01
Sunscreen, daily, all year

Texas UV doesn't take winter off. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning does more for tone, texture and pigmentation than every serum on the shelf combined.

02
Fewer actives, used consistently

Most irritated skin we see is over-treated, not under-treated. One exfoliating acid and one retinoid, on alternating nights, beats six products used at random.

03
Moisturise on damp skin

Apply within a minute of cleansing while the skin is still slightly wet. It's a small change and it's the single most effective thing most people can do for dehydration.

04
Give it twelve weeks

Skin turns over roughly every twenty-eight days, and it takes three cycles to see a real change. Almost nobody quits a routine too late; nearly everybody quits it too early.

Skin questions

Before you book a facial

Sometimes, and it's usually a good sign. Extractions and exfoliation bring congestion that was already forming to the surface faster. If it happens it's typically within forty-eight hours and clears in a few days. We'll always tell you before we start if we think purging is likely, so it isn't a surprise.

Seven to ten days out for anything with exfoliation or extractions. If you want something the day before, book the Express Facial or a hydrating treatment with no extractions. Never try a new facial for the first time in the same week as an event — that's a rule, not a suggestion.

Yes. We adjust the product selection — no retinoids, no high-percentage salicylic acid, no strong peels. The Murphy Facial, the Hydrating Glow, dermaplaning and gua sha are all pregnancy-appropriate. Just tell us at booking so your esthetician can plan the tray.

Two weeks either side of injectables for anything involving facial massage, gua sha or steam. If you have an appointment coming up, book your facial first. Always follow whatever your injector tells you — their instructions override ours.

No. Say the word at intake and we'll skip them entirely, or do only the areas you point to. Extractions add nothing to your bill either way — they're part of the service, not an upsell.

Come as you are — we remove it as part of the double cleanse and we'd honestly rather see your skin the way it normally looks. Afterwards we recommend leaving your skin bare for the rest of the day. We'll apply SPF before you leave.

Polishes, rituals, wraps & back care

Body Treatments

Skin care for the ninety percent of you that isn't your face. Exfoliation, hydration and heat — for skin that's had a long Texas summer or a long Texas winter of indoor air.

Why bother

Most people exfoliate their face and ignore everything below the jaw

Body skin renews more slowly than facial skin, gets less product, and takes the worst of the sun. A single polish and wrap does something you genuinely cannot replicate in a shower — and it comes with forty-five to sixty minutes of being warm and horizontal, which is not nothing.

All body treatments include a shower before you dress. Bring nothing; robes, slippers and everything else are here.

Full body · 45 minutes

Brown Sugar Body Polish

A warm sugar-and-oil scrub worked over the whole body, rinsed in the shower, and finished with a shea butter application while the skin is still warm.

Sugar dissolves as it works, so it exfoliates without the scratching you get from a coarse salt or a nut shell. It suits sensitive skin, freshly shaved skin and anyone who has ever come out of a scrub feeling sandpapered. Skin is noticeably softer immediately, and self-tanner applied over it goes on evenly for the first time in your life.

Best for
  • Dry, flaky arms, legs and back
  • Keratosis pilaris on the upper arms
  • Prepping for a tan, a beach trip or a wedding
  • Anyone new to body treatments
Good to know
  • Shower included — towels and toiletries provided
  • Don't shave the same day
  • Add to any massage for a 105-minute visit
  • Unscented option available
  • 30 minutes$50
  • 45 minutes$70
The overlooked two · 30 minutes

Hand & Foot Ritual

A warm mask, a sugar scrub and real massage for the two parts of you that work hardest and get looked after least.

Hands take the sun, the sanitiser and the washing-up; feet take everything else. Both are dense with nerve endings, which is why thirty minutes here feels disproportionately good. Warm masks go on under towels while your therapist works the forearms and calves, then come off with a scrub and a long massage.

It is the most-added treatment on the menu and the one guests most often book for someone else.

  • 30 minutes$50
  • With a 60-minute massage (Body & Hand & Foot Mask)$120
Warm & mineral · 60 minutes

Detox Clay Wrap

Mineral-rich clay applied warm from shoulders to ankles, wrapped in a heated cocoon, followed by a scalp and foot massage while it works.

Let's be straight about what a wrap does. It does not remove toxins from your bloodstream — your liver and kidneys handle that, and no clay on the planet helps them. What it does do is draw oil and impurities from the surface of the skin, deliver magnesium and trace minerals, hold heat against tired muscles for twenty solid minutes, and leave your skin remarkably clean and smooth. That's plenty.

The heat is the underrated part. Twenty minutes wrapped and warm, with someone working your scalp, is the closest thing we have to a reset button.

Best for
  • Congested or oily body skin, including the back
  • Sore, achy muscles after a hard week
  • Anyone who runs cold
  • Pairing with a 60-minute massage
Skip it if
  • You're claustrophobic — try the polish instead
  • You're pregnant
  • You have eczema or psoriasis in an active flare
  • You don't tolerate heat well
  • 60 minutes$95
Deep hydration · 60 minutes

Hydrating Cocoon Wrap

The gentle sibling of the clay wrap. A shea, coconut and hyaluronic body butter applied thickly, wrapped warm, and massaged in rather than rinsed off.

This is the treatment for skin that is dry rather than congested — the tight, itchy, dull kind that arrives every February and every August. Nothing to shower off, so you leave with all of it still on your skin. Guests routinely tell us it lasts three or four days.

  • 60 minutes$90
The long one · 90 minutes

Salt Glow & Massage

Thirty minutes of mineral salt exfoliation and a shower, then a full sixty-minute massage on freshly polished skin.

Massage oil absorbs completely differently once the dead surface layer is gone, and the whole session feels smoother and warmer as a result. If you're only going to do one long treatment a year, this is the one we'd point you to.

  • 90 minutes total$120
Skin care where you can't reach · 45 minutes

Back Rescue Treatment

A full clarifying facial for your back and shoulders — cleanse, exfoliation, steam, extractions, mask and a fifteen-minute massage to finish.

Back congestion is extremely common and almost impossible to treat yourself. Sweat, sunscreen, hair conditioner running down the back in the shower and a shirt on top of all of it add up. This is the same protocol as our clarifying facial, scaled up, and it is the treatment guests are most surprised they'd never heard of.

Often booked before a wedding, a beach trip or a season of backless dresses. A series of three, three weeks apart, does considerably more than one.

An hour is a treatment. Three hours is an afternoon off. These are the combinations our guests kept building at the desk, so we put them on the menu and priced them properly.

Couples Massage

Two tables, two therapists, one private suite with a door that closes and its own sound. You share the room and the timing — nothing else has to match.

One of you can have deep tissue while the other has the signature relaxation massage. One of you can spend the whole hour face down while the other wants twenty minutes on their feet. Your therapists work independently and keep time together, so you finish within a minute of each other.

It's the most requested service for anniversaries and birthdays, and it works just as well for a mother and daughter, two friends, or a couple who never get an hour in the same room without a screen in it.

Private Groups & Buyouts

Bridal parties, birthdays, a team that had a hard quarter, or a group of friends who decided a Tuesday afternoon was overdue.

With six treatment rooms and the couples suite we can run up to seven guests at once, and up to twelve on a staggered schedule with the quiet room and lounge reserved for your group. We'll build a running order so nobody is sitting around, and we can bring in food and drink or let you handle that yourselves.

A private buyout closes the spa to other guests for a set block. It's the quietest way to do it and it makes the whole place yours.

What's included

Things worth knowing first

Yes — that's the whole point of the couples suite. Two full-size tables with room to walk between them, one door, one set of lights and one sound system. If you'd rather have separate rooms, just say so at booking and we'll schedule you side by side down the hall instead.

No. Any two services from the massage menu of the same duration. If one of you wants ninety minutes and the other wants sixty, we can do that too — the shorter service simply starts later so you finish together.

One to two weeks for a half day or the Reset. Two to three weeks for anything in the couples suite, and four weeks or more for December, the fortnight before Valentine's Day, and the fortnight before Mother's Day — those three periods are our busiest by a wide margin.

Yes, and we'd gently suggest a dollar-value gift card instead. A card lets them choose the date, the therapist and even a different service if it suits them better — and it never expires. If you'd like the package named on the card so they know what you had in mind, we'll write it on by hand.

Individual packages follow our standard twenty-four hour policy. Groups of four or more require a fifty percent deposit, fully refundable up to seven days before, and non-refundable inside that window because we've held multiple therapists and turned away other bookings. We'll always try to move you rather than charge you.

For private groups and buyouts, yes — bring what you like, and we'll set it out in the quiet room or the lounge. For regular bookings we'd ask you to keep it to the reception area, since other guests are mid-treatment. No open flames, and please, nothing that needs a speaker.

Three plans · from $59 a month

Memberships

Built for people who already come every four to six weeks, and honest enough to tell you when it isn't worth it. Unused months roll forward. Cancel any time after the third.

The honest version

A membership is a scheduling tool

The saving is real but modest. The thing that actually changes people's results is that the appointment already exists — it's paid for, it's on the calendar, and your body stops waiting until something hurts badly enough to justify the call.

Here's our rule of thumb: if you come three times a year, pay as you go and don't think about it again. If you come six or more times a year, Sage is cheaper than what you're already spending. If ninety minutes is your normal booking, Sanctuary is the cheapest way to do it — $95 a month against $120 at the desk.

01
Nothing expires for six months

Miss a month and the service rolls forward. You can bank up to six and use three in one visit if you want a half day. Most membership programmes quietly delete unused months; we don't.

02
Your discount applies to everything

Additional services, packages, retail and gift cards. Buy a $200 gift card as a Sanctuary member and it costs you $160 — and the recipient still gets $200 of services.

03
Share it with your household

Anyone living at your address can use your monthly service and your discount. Partners, adult children, a parent staying with you. It's one membership, not one body.

Membership questions

The fine print, in plain English

Nothing. The service banks and stays available for six months from the date it was added. You can accumulate up to six and spend several at once — two banked ninety-minute services plus a facial makes a very good afternoon.

Yes, any time after the third billing cycle, with thirty days' notice by email or in person. Any banked services stay valid for six months after you cancel — you don't lose what you've already paid for. There's no cancellation fee and nobody will try to talk you out of it.

You can pause for up to three months in any twelve-month period — for travel, surgery, a new baby, or a stretch where money is tight. Just ask. Banked services hold their expiry date while you're paused.

Any time, effective the next billing date. Moving up takes effect immediately if you'd like it to. Moving down keeps everything you've already banked.

It does, and it's the most underused benefit we offer. A Sanctuary member buying a $200 gift card pays $160, and the recipient still redeems the full $200. Members who do their December shopping here save a meaningful amount.

Anyone in your household. We keep the membership under your name and they simply mention it at booking. Guest passes, separately, are for anyone at all — a friend, a colleague, a neighbour who needs it more than you do that month.

Gratuity isn't included in any membership. If you tip, we'd ask you to base it on the standard service price rather than the discounted one, since your therapist did the same work either way. As always, it's entirely optional and never mentioned at the desk.

Cancellations & arrivals
  • Twenty-four hours' notice, please
  • Inside 24 hours: 50% of the service
  • No-show: the full service price
  • Illness: fee waived, every time, no questions
  • Late arrival: we treat you for the time remaining and charge the full price
Prices

All prices are in US dollars and current as of 2026. We review the menu annually. Members are given sixty days' notice of any change and keep their rate for the remainder of their term.

A note on the 24-hour policy. It exists because a cancelled hour is an hour a therapist doesn't get paid for and another guest couldn't have. It is not there to punish you. If something has genuinely gone wrong, call us and speak to a person — we sort it out far more often than we charge for it.

By the owner of Sunflower Massage, Wylie

About the Spa

A second spa from Lily Huang, who has run Sunflower Massage in Wylie for ten years — and a fairly stubborn opinion about how long an hour should be.

Our story

We opened the spa we couldn't find here

Lily Huang has spent more than a decade on the other side of the table. For the last ten years she has owned and run Sunflower Massage in Wylie — a small, busy, thoroughly reviewed spa a few miles east of here. Murphy is her second.

Sessions got shorter while the sign on the door kept saying sixty minutes. Therapists got moved between rooms so often that no one learned anybody's back. Front desks got scripts. And guests — good, tired, generous people who just wanted an hour of relief — started arriving braced, waiting for the part where somebody sold them something.

She'd been driving past the same empty suite on FM 544 for a long time. Eventually she stopped driving past it.

Murphy Massage & Spa opened with one rule, the same one that has kept Sunflower full for ten years: the hour belongs to the guest. That is why our sixty-minute massage is sixty minutes of hands-on work, why intake happens before the clock starts, and why nobody who works here has ever been asked to hit a retail number.

Two spas in, the rule hasn't changed. Neither have most of the therapists — which is, quietly, the thing we're proudest of.

If a guest leaves feeling like they were processed instead of treated, we got something wrong. That's the whole standard.
What we believe

Five things we won't move on

01
The hour belongs to the guest

Intake, undressing, dressing and aftercare all happen outside the session. If your appointment says ninety minutes, that is ninety minutes of hands-on work — not eighty, and not seventy-five with a hard stop for the next booking.

02
Therapists are paid to stay

Continuity is the whole product. A therapist who has worked on you four times knows things about your body that no intake form will ever capture. We pay above the market rate, we cap how many sessions anyone works in a day, and we would rather turn away a booking than burn out the person who'd have to take it.

03
Nothing gets sold to you on the table

No retail targets, no commission, no script. If your esthetician recommends a product it's because she thinks your barrier is compromised, and she'll tell you which drugstore alternative works just as well. Recommendations are written down for you and you can walk out with none of them.

04
We say no when the answer is no

If you have a fever, we reschedule. If a peel this close to your wedding is a bad idea, we say so. If you'd be better served by a physical therapist or a dermatologist, we'll tell you that too, and we won't take your money in the meantime.

05
Everyone is welcome and everyone stays covered

Any body, any age, any gender, any level of experience. You are draped at all times, you undress only to your comfort level, and you can say stop at any point in any session for any reason without explaining yourself.

The team

The people whose hands you'll actually be in

Everyone here is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and carries their own continuing education. Request anyone by name when you book.

Note for the site owner: these profiles carry no photographs on purpose — a stock portrait under a real therapist's name misrepresents who works here. Send real headshots and they drop straight into these frames. Lily's bio is written from the Sunflower Massage site; please confirm her licence number, and replace the two placeholder therapists with the actual Murphy team.

Inside the spa

Built quiet, on purpose

The suite was gutted and rebuilt before we opened a single room. Insulated interior walls, a hallway between the lobby and the treatment rooms, solid-core doors and a separate air handler for the quiet room.

None of that shows up in a photograph, and all of it is the reason guests fall asleep here. You cannot relax in a room where you can hear the phone.

  • Six private treatment rooms
  • A couples suite with two full-size tables
  • A quiet room with tea and no clock
  • Two showers with everything provided
  • Warmed tables and organic bamboo linens
  • Fragrance-free protocol on request
  • Step-free entry and an accessible restroom
In Murphy

A small town that mostly stayed one

Murphy is about twenty thousand people between Plano and Wylie, with a city hall, a park with a fishing pond, and a high school where the whole town shows up on Friday nights.

Our guests come from Maxwell Creek, Rolling Ridge, Brookside, Whispering Hills and Murphy Farms, and from Plano, Wylie, Sachse, Parker, Lucas and Allen — a good number of them from Sunflower in Wylie, who now have somewhere closer to go. Enough of them know each other that we're careful about the lobby — nobody wants to run into their neighbour in a robe without warning, and we've laid the place out accordingly.

We sponsor a youth team most seasons, we send gift cards to the school auctions that ask, and we hire locally when we can. It isn't a marketing strategy. It's just where we live.

Everything nobody explains

Your First Visit

Nobody should have to feel underdressed and underinformed at the same time. Here is exactly what happens, in order, including the parts people are too polite to ask about.

Before — when you book
Tell us the truth in the notes box

The “anything we should know?” field is the most useful part of the form. Injuries, surgeries, pregnancy, a recent diagnosis, allergies, a shoulder you can't lie on, a fear of having your feet touched. None of it is too small and none of it is embarrassing. It's how we match you with the right therapist rather than the next open slot.

Before — that morning
Eat something light, skip the workout

A full meal within an hour is uncomfortable face down; an empty stomach makes people lightheaded. Something small an hour or two ahead is ideal. Don't shave right before, go easy on the caffeine, and drink water — a hydrated muscle is genuinely easier to work with.

Arriving
Fifteen minutes early, in whatever you're wearing

There's no dress code. Come from work, from the gym, from carpool. You'll fill out a short intake form — two minutes if you did the notes box — and we'll offer you tea and a seat in the quiet room. If you're running late, call us. We'd much rather know.

The consultation
Two minutes with your therapist

They'll walk you to the room, ask what's going on and where, confirm the pressure you want and check whether there's anywhere you'd rather they didn't work. Then they'll explain how to get on the table, step out, and knock before coming back in.

Undressing
To your comfort level, and no further

Many guests keep their underwear on. Some undress fully. Both are completely normal and your therapist genuinely does not notice or care. You get under the sheet, face down unless told otherwise, with your face in the cradle. Take as long as you need — nobody is coming in until you say so.

The draping
You stay covered the entire session

Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and it's re-draped before your therapist moves elsewhere. Your chest and glutes stay covered throughout unless you've specifically requested and consented to glute work, which is done through the sheet or with secure draping. This is a licensing requirement, not a house preference.

During
Say things out loud

Too hot, too cold, too much pressure, not enough, the face cradle is at a bad angle, you need to blow your nose. Say it. Interrupting is not rude — guessing is what makes a session worse. And if you'd rather not talk at all, say that at the start and your therapist will stay quiet.

Afterwards
Get up slowly and drink the water

Your therapist will tell you they're stepping out and leave you a few minutes. Sit up before you stand — blood pressure drops during a massage and people get dizzy. There's water in the room and more at the desk, plus a shower if you want one.

The awkward questions

Asked constantly, almost never out loud

“What if I fall asleep?”

Then your therapist did their job. Roughly half our guests do. Snoring included. It's the single best feedback a therapist can get.

“What if my stomach growls?”

That's your digestive system switching back on because your nervous system finally stood down. It is literally the physiological result we're aiming for.

“What if I'm ticklish?”

Ticklishness is usually a response to light, unpredictable touch. Ask for firmer, slower pressure and it almost always disappears. Feet and ribs are the usual suspects.

“Do I need to shave?”

No. Please don't shave the same day — freshly shaved skin reacts to oil and friction. Nobody has ever noticed body hair. Not once.

“What if I get an erection?”

It happens, it's an involuntary parasympathetic response, and professional therapists know that. Nothing is said and nothing changes. If you're uncomfortable, tell us and we'll adjust position or draping.

“Can I keep my underwear on?”

Yes, always. It limits low back and hip work slightly, and your therapist can work around it or through the sheet. Comfort matters more than access.

“Am I supposed to tip?”

It's customary but never expected and never mentioned at the desk. Fifteen to twenty percent if you'd like to. Card or cash; it all goes to your therapist.

“What if I need to stop?”

Say stop. The session ends immediately, no explanation required, and we will not charge you for time you didn't use. This applies at any point, for any reason.

“Is it weird to come alone?”

The overwhelming majority of our guests come alone. Couples bookings are the exception, not the rule.

Afterwards

The next twenty-four hours

What you do after a massage affects how much of it you keep.

  • Drink water through the rest of the day
  • Move gently — a walk beats the couch
  • A warm bath with Epsom salts helps soreness
  • Go to bed early if you can
  • Skip a heavy workout for twenty-four hours
  • Skip alcohol the same evening if you can
  • Expect mild soreness after deep tissue — that's normal
  • Call us if soreness is sharp or lasts past three days
What to bring

Nothing. Robes, slippers, towels, shower toiletries, hair ties and water are all here. If you're coming for a body treatment and want your own shampoo, bring it. If you wear contacts, a case is useful for face-down work.

Accessibility

Step-free entry, an accessible restroom, and treatment rooms that accommodate a wheelchair. Tables lower to twenty-four inches. If you need a transfer, extra time, or a therapist experienced with limited mobility, tell us at booking and we'll arrange it properly rather than improvising on the day.

If you're nervous

Book a thirty-minute reflexology session first. You stay fully clothed, in a chair, with nothing to undress and nothing unfamiliar. Plenty of our regulars started exactly there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Booking, etiquette, safety, skin, money and everything guests ask at the desk when they think nobody's listening.

01

Booking & Arriving

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are usually available within a day or two. Evenings after 5:00 pm and Saturdays typically go one to two weeks ahead. December, the two weeks before Valentine's Day and the two weeks before Mother's Day are our busiest periods by a wide margin — book three to four weeks out for those. If you want a specific therapist or the couples suite, always book further ahead.

When we have a table, yes — and it's worth calling from the car, because same-day openings happen more often than people expect. We'd rather fill an hour than lose it.

Always, and we'd encourage it. Continuity is most of the value. Mention the name when you book online or by phone. If they're unavailable we'll tell you before you commit rather than after.

Yes. Say so at booking and we'll match you. It's an extremely common request and nobody will ask you why.

Fifteen minutes for a first visit, ten after that. That time is for intake and tea, not for your session — the clock on your treatment starts when the hands do.

We'll treat you for whatever time remains and charge the full service price, because the guest after you booked their hour too. If you're going to be more than fifteen minutes late, call — sometimes there's room to shift things and sometimes we can move you to later the same day.

Twenty-four hours' notice. Inside that window we charge fifty percent of the service; a no-show is charged in full. Illness is always waived — we would far rather you stayed home. Groups of four or more require a fifty percent deposit, refundable up to seven days out.

Free parking directly outside, including accessible spaces near the entrance. Entry is step-free.

02

Etiquette & What to Expect

No. Undress to whatever level you're comfortable with — many guests keep underwear on. You are draped with a sheet the entire session and only the area being worked is uncovered. Your therapist leaves the room while you get on and off the table and knocks before returning.

Not at all. Say at the start that you'd like a quiet session and your therapist will only speak to check pressure or ask you to turn over. It's a very common request.

Say so, immediately. Your therapist will ask early, but they can't feel what you feel. “A little lighter”, “more on that spot” and “back off about twenty percent” are all perfect things to say. Sitting through a session that hurts helps nobody — a guarded muscle can't release.

At any point, for any reason, with no explanation. We won't charge you for time you didn't use.

If it's convenient, but it isn't required and nobody expects you to. Come from the gym if that's when you had the hour. We have showers here if you'd rather use ours.

Customary but never expected, and never mentioned at the desk. Fifteen to twenty percent of the standard service price is the usual range. Card or cash, and it goes entirely to your therapist. Members: please tip on the standard price rather than the discounted one.

Phones go on silent in the lobby, please — the walls are quiet and sound carries. We can't supervise children, so we ask that unaccompanied minors aren't left in the lobby. Guests aged sixteen and seventeen may be treated with a parent or guardian's written consent, and a parent present in the room if either party prefers.

03

Choosing a Service

Swedish — our Signature Relaxation Massage — uses long, flowing strokes at medium pressure across the whole body to calm the nervous system. Deep tissue works slower and more specifically, holding pressure into the deeper layers of two or three problem areas. Swedish is for stress; deep tissue is for a problem. If you don't have a specific complaint, book the Signature.

Sixty covers the full body at a reasonable pace, or one region thoroughly. Ninety is the honest answer for most people: it lets a therapist treat the site and the cause — the hip that's driving the back pain, the chest that's pulling the neck forward — without cutting anything short. If you're only going to come twice a year, come for ninety.

Every four to six weeks for general maintenance. For an active problem, weekly or fortnightly for four to six weeks then taper — frequency early matters far more than total sessions. If you train seriously, every two weeks in season.

If you're carrying tension or pain, massage. If your skin is the thing bothering you when you look in the mirror, facial. If you want both, our Facial & Full Body is a sixty-minute massage and The Murphy Facial back to back — eighty-five minutes for $120, against $150 booked separately. It is the most common combination we book.

If you come three times a year, no — pay as you go and we'll tell you that at the desk. Six or more times a year, Sage saves you money. If ninety minutes is your usual booking, Sanctuary pays for itself in the first month. The full comparison is on the memberships page.

04

Health & Safety

Yes, generally from the second trimester with your obstetrician's clearance. We use side-lying positioning with full bolster support rather than a cut-out table, and the session is handled by a therapist with prenatal training. High-risk pregnancies need written clearance. We don't offer hot stone or body wraps during pregnancy.

Usually yes, with adjustments — and always tell us. High or low blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, autoimmune conditions, blood thinners, a history of clots, recent surgery, cancer treatment and neuropathy all change how we work, and in some cases mean we ask for a physician's clearance first. Being told is never a problem; not being told is.

Often, and gentle massage can help a great deal with sleep, anxiety and pain. We need your oncologist's clearance, and we'll adapt pressure, positioning and product — unscented, no deep work, careful around ports, scars and lymph node sites. Please tell us at booking so we schedule the right therapist and the right amount of time.

No. Fever, an active infection, a stomach bug or anything contagious means reschedule — massage moves fluid around and can make you feel considerably worse, and it isn't fair to your therapist or the next guest. We waive the cancellation fee for illness every time.

Sustained pressure on tissue that hasn't moved well creates a small, controlled inflammatory response — similar to the day after a hard workout. It peaks around twenty-four hours and clears by forty-eight. Water, warmth and gentle movement help. Sharp pain, bruising or soreness past three days is not normal; call us.

Yes, and it's the most common pairing we book. A sixty-minute massage followed by an Express Facial is ninety minutes end to end. If you'd like the full experience, The Half Day runs three and a quarter hours and costs less than the three treatments booked separately. Tell us at booking so we can hold the right rooms back to back.

Linens are changed and commercially laundered between every guest, face cradle covers are single-use, tables and all hard surfaces are disinfected between sessions, and therapists wash hands before and after every treatment. Implements used in facials are either single-use or sterilised. It's the baseline, and we're happy to show you anything you want to see.

05

Skin & Facials

Sometimes, and it's usually a good sign. Exfoliation and extractions bring congestion that was already forming to the surface sooner. It typically appears within forty-eight hours and clears within a few days. We'll tell you before we start if we think purging is likely.

Seven to ten days for anything with exfoliation or extractions. The day before, book an Express Facial or a hydrating treatment with no extractions. Never try a new facial for the first time the same week as an event.

Yes, with an adjusted product selection — no retinoids, no high-percentage salicylic acid and no strong peels. The Murphy Facial, Hydrating Glow, dermaplaning and gua sha are all appropriate. Tell us at booking.

Two weeks either side for anything involving facial massage, gua sha or steam. If you have injectables scheduled, book your facial first. Your injector's instructions always override ours.

No. Vellus hair has no capacity to become terminal hair — that transformation is driven by hormones, not by cutting. It returns exactly as it was in three to four weeks. The myth comes from the blunt tip of a cut hair feeling coarser than a tapered one.

No. Nobody here works on commission and there are no retail targets. Your esthetician will write down two or three things worth changing, and if a drugstore product does the job as well as a professional one, she'll tell you which. You can walk out having bought nothing and nobody will think anything of it.

06

Payment, Gift Cards & Insurance

We accept HSA and FSA cards and provide itemised receipts. Whether massage qualifies as an eligible expense depends on your plan — most require a letter of medical necessity from your physician. We'll provide the documentation; the eligibility decision is between you and your plan administrator.

We don't bill insurance directly. We can provide a detailed receipt with service codes for you to submit yourself. If you're being treated under an auto injury claim or workers' compensation, call us and we'll talk through what's possible.

No. Our gift cards hold a dollar value that never expires and carries no service fees. They can be used on any service, package or product, and any unused balance stays on the card.

You can, and we'd gently suggest a dollar value instead — it lets the recipient choose the date, the therapist and even a different service if it suits them better. We'll write the treatment you had in mind on the card by hand so they know your intention.

We keep it simple: memberships, series pricing on clarifying, age-renewal and back treatments, and package pricing that's below the sum of its parts. We don't run flash sales, because it isn't fair to the guest who paid full price last Tuesday. Active military, veterans, first responders, teachers and nurses receive ten percent off any service — just show us ID.

Tell us before you leave, or call the next day. We will listen, and depending on what went wrong we'll rebook you with a different therapist at no charge or refund the session. We'd far rather fix it than have you quietly stop coming.

Gift Cards

A dollar value they can spend on anything — any service, any therapist, any date. The one gift nobody has to pretend to like.

Why a dollar value

Let them choose the hour

A card for a named service locks someone into a date, a length and a treatment you picked for them. A dollar value lets them book the thing their body actually needs, on a day that works, with a therapist they like.

If you want them to know what you had in mind, tell us at checkout and we'll write it on the card by hand — “this is enough for the ninety-minute massage, and there's change left over.” They still get to decide.

  • Never expires
  • No activation or maintenance fees
  • Unused balance stays on the card
  • Works on services, packages and retail
  • Can be combined with another card
  • Transferable — they can pass it on

We'll post a card and envelope at no extra charge. Allow five business days, or seven in December, when the whole country is mailing something.

What people give them for

Occasions where this is the right call

Massage is one of very few gifts that's genuinely wanted by people who say they don't want anything.

  • A new parent, six weeks in
  • Mother's Day and Father's Day
  • Anniversaries — the couples suite
  • A friend going through something hard
  • Someone who just moved house
  • Teacher appreciation and end of term
  • A team that had a brutal quarter
  • Bridal party thank-yous
  • A milestone birthday
  • Anyone who has said “I really need a massage”
Members save on gift cards too. A Sanctuary member buys a $200 card for $160, and the recipient still redeems the full $200. It is the most underused benefit of a membership, particularly in December.
Gift card questions

The details

They don't. There is no expiry date, no inactivity fee and no reduction over time. Texas law protects most gift card balances from expiring, and we go further by never charging fees against them at all.

They pay the difference at the desk. And if the service costs less, the remaining balance stays on the card for next time — we don't zero it out.

Yes. If you're buying a card as a gift, adding twenty percent on top is a thoughtful touch that saves the recipient an awkward moment at the desk.

Gift cards aren't refundable for cash, but they're fully transferable — if it isn't going to get used, pass it to someone who'll use it. If there's been a genuine mistake, call us and talk to a person.

Usually. Call with the purchaser's name and roughly when it was bought and we'll find the balance in our system. Physical cards without a record can't always be traced, so keep a photo of it.

Yes, and we do a fair amount of it around the holidays and at end of quarter. Ten or more cards can be issued on a single invoice with your company name printed on them. Call and ask for whoever's at the desk.

What our guests say

Guest Reviews

The only reviews worth reading are the ones somebody actually wrote. Here's what our guests have said — and where to read the rest of it in their own accounts.

Note for the site owner — read before launch. Every quote on this page is a structural placeholder. Replace each one with a real, verified review from your Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook or booking system, using the reviewer's name exactly as they left it. Do not publish invented testimonials: it misleads guests, it breaches Google's and Yelp's terms, and in the United States it can be an unfair or deceptive practice under FTC rules. Once you have live ratings, add the star rating and review count to the rating and review_count fields in build.py so the structured data reflects reality.
In their words

Six reviews, six different reasons

The reviews worth featuring name a service and describe a result. Those are the ones that help a stranger decide.

[A review about deep tissue or chronic pain. Ideally one that mentions how long the problem had been going on and what changed.]

[Name] · [Google]

[A review from a first-time guest. These reassure the largest share of people landing on this page.]

[Name] · [Google]

[A review about prenatal massage. Naming the service helps this page rank for it locally.]

[Name] · [Google]

[A review about a facial or skin result. Specifics about texture, breakouts or glow work far better than "lovely spa".]

[Name] · [Yelp]

[A review about the couples suite or a package. Useful for gift-buyers and anniversary searches.]

[Name] · [Google]

[A review that names a therapist by name. Nothing builds trust faster, and it helps the therapist too.]

Don't take our word for it

Reviews on our own website are, by definition, the ones we chose. These are the ones we didn't.

Site owner: point these at your actual Google Business Profile and Yelp listing.

Been in recently?

If we got it right, a few sentences on Google helps another person in Murphy find us — and helps the therapist you saw. Mentioning what you booked and what changed is more useful than anything else you could write.

If we got it wrong, please tell us directly first. Call (469) 380-6302 or email hello@murphymassageandspa.com. We would much rather hear it and fix it than read it later.

Areas We Serve

We're in Murphy, and most of our guests are within a fifteen-minute drive. Here's where they come from and how long it takes.

Home base

Murphy, Texas 75094

A town of roughly twenty thousand people sitting between Plano and Wylie, with FM 544 running through the middle of it and a lot of families who have been here twenty years.

Our regulars come from Maxwell Creek, Rolling Ridge, Brookside, Whispering Hills, Murphy Farms and the newer streets off Betsy Lane. Most are here in under seven minutes, which is the entire reason a neighbourhood spa works in a town this size.

Address623 W FM 544, Suite 100
Murphy, TX 75094
HoursMon–Sat 9a–8p · Sun 11a–6p
Plano

Ten to fifteen minutes east on FM 544 or Parker Road from most of east Plano. We see a lot of guests from the Los Rios, Deerfield and Russell Creek areas who'd rather not fight Legacy traffic for a massage.

Wylie

Seven to twelve minutes west on FM 544. For most of Wylie we're closer than anything in Plano, and there's no highway involved in getting here.

Sachse

Under ten minutes north on Murphy Road. Sachse and Murphy share a good deal of everything — schools, sports leagues, and now a spa.

Parker

Ten minutes south on Murphy Road or Parker Road. A short, quiet drive with nothing bigger than a stop sign in the way.

Lucas

Twelve to fifteen minutes down Angel Parkway and Murphy Road. Worth the drive if you'd rather not go into McKinney.

Allen

Fifteen to twenty minutes via Bethany Drive or Alma Road. Popular with guests who work in Allen and live south of it.

Richardson

Fifteen to twenty minutes west on Renner Road. A frequent stop for guests heading home from the Telecom Corridor.

Garland & Rowlett

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes north on Murphy Road or up President George Bush. Easiest outside rush hour.

St. Paul

Under ten minutes east. One of the shortest drives to us of anywhere in the county.

Fairview & McKinney

Twenty to thirty minutes north. Longer, but a fair number of guests make the trip for a specific therapist — which we take as a compliment.

Coming from further out

Three things worth knowing

Avoid 5 to 6:30 on FM 544

The stretch between Murphy Road and the Plano line backs up properly at rush hour. A 6:30 pm appointment is often an easier drive than a 5:30 one.

Weekday mornings are wide open

If your schedule allows it, Tuesday to Thursday before noon is the quietest the spa gets and the easiest to book at short notice.

Build the drive into the visit

If you're coming twenty minutes, book ninety rather than sixty. The drive costs the same either way and the extra half hour is where most of the value is.

What we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it.

Note for the site owner: this is a solid starting template written for a Texas day spa. Have it reviewed by an attorney before launch, and update it to match the actual booking platform, payment processor, analytics and marketing tools you use. Who we are

What we collect

Information you give us. Your name, phone number, email address and any details you enter in an appointment request or intake form — including health information you choose to share, such as injuries, pregnancy, medications, allergies and areas to avoid.

Information collected automatically. Standard web server and analytics data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring site and approximate location. This tells us which pages are useful and which are not.

Payment information. Card details are entered directly into our payment processor's system and are not stored on our servers or on this website.

Why we collect it

  • To schedule, confirm and deliver your appointment
  • To match you with an appropriate therapist and to treat you safely
  • To take payment and issue receipts
  • To send appointment reminders and answer your questions
  • To send marketing emails, only if you have opted in
  • To improve the website and understand which pages help

Health information

Intake information about your health is treated as confidential. It is visible to the therapist treating you and to management, is stored securely, and is never used for marketing or shared for any purpose unrelated to your care. We will not disclose it to anyone — including a spouse, a partner or the person who bought your gift card — without your consent, except where the law requires it.

What we never do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent, trade or share it with third parties for their own marketing. We do not use your treatment details in advertising. We do not publish your name or your photograph without your written permission.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers who make the business work — our booking software, payment processor, email platform and website analytics — and only to the extent they need it to perform that function. Each is bound to protect it. We may also disclose information where legally required, or to protect someone's safety.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for basic functionality and, where enabled, for analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the booking process may not work correctly if you do.

Terms & Spa Policies

Appointments

Appointments may be made online, by phone or in person. Booking an appointment reserves a specific therapist for a specific hour. Please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early so your session can begin on time.

Cancellations & no-shows

We ask for twenty-four hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations inside that window are charged fifty percent of the service price, and no-shows are charged in full. Illness is always waived. Groups of four or more guests require a fifty percent deposit, refundable up to seven days before the reservation.

Late arrival

If you arrive late, your session will end at its scheduled time so the guest after you is not delayed, and the full service price applies. If you're going to be more than fifteen minutes late, please call — we can sometimes move you.

Health & intake

You are asked to disclose relevant health information before your first treatment and to tell us about any changes at subsequent visits. Some conditions require clearance from your physician. We reserve the right to decline or modify a treatment where it would not be safe. Our services are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment.

Draping & conduct

All guests are draped at all times in accordance with Texas licensing requirements. Only the area being treated is uncovered. You may end a session at any time for any reason. Any request for or suggestion of sexual services will end the appointment immediately, will be charged in full, and will result in a permanent refusal of service. Our therapists are licensed healthcare practitioners and are entitled to a safe workplace.

Minors

Guests aged sixteen and seventeen may receive services with a parent or guardian's written consent, and with a parent or guardian present in the treatment room if either party prefers. We do not treat guests under sixteen.

Gift cards

Gift cards hold a dollar value, never expire and carry no fees. They may be used toward any service, package, product or gratuity. Unused balances remain on the card. Gift cards are transferable and are not redeemable for cash.

Memberships

Memberships bill monthly on the date of enrolment and require an initial three-month term. After that they continue month to month and may be cancelled with thirty days' written notice. Included services bank for six months from the date they are added and remain valid for six months after cancellation. Memberships may be paused for up to three months in any twelve-month period. Included services and discounts may be used by members of your household. Membership rates are held for the remainder of your term if prices change; you will receive sixty days' notice.

Payment & pricing

Prices are in US dollars, exclude gratuity, and are subject to change. We accept major cards, cash, HSA and FSA cards and our own gift cards. We do not bill insurance directly, though we can provide an itemised receipt for you to submit.

Personal property

Please leave valuables at home. Lockers and a secure place for your belongings are available, but we cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged personal items.

Satisfaction

If a treatment was not what it should have been, tell us before you leave or call the following day. Depending on what went wrong we will rebook you with a different therapist at no charge or refund the session.

Website content

The content on this website is provided for general information and is not medical advice. Photography on this site may include stock imagery. Prices, services and hours shown here are subject to change; the version confirmed at booking applies.

Accessibility

What we've done, what we're still working on, and how to tell us we've missed something.

In the spa

  • Step-free entry from the parking lot, with accessible spaces beside the door
  • Doorways and hallways that accommodate a wheelchair
  • An accessible restroom
  • Treatment tables that lower to twenty-four inches
  • Therapists experienced with limited mobility, chronic pain and transfers
  • Side-lying and seated treatment options for anyone who can't lie face down
  • A fragrance-free protocol on request, with the diffuser switched off in your room
  • Service animals welcome

If you need extra time, help transferring, a specific therapist, or anything else that would make the visit work better, please tell us when you book. We would much rather arrange it properly in advance than improvise on the day.

On this website

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. In practice that means:

  • Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure on every page
  • All functionality reachable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator
  • A skip-to-content link at the top of every page
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images, and empty alt on decorative ones
  • Colour contrast that meets or exceeds AA for body and interface text
  • Text that reflows and remains readable at 200% zoom and on small screens
  • Animation reduced automatically when your device requests reduced motion
  • Form fields with visible, persistent labels rather than placeholder-only labels

Tell us if we've missed something

Accessibility is never finished, and we would genuinely rather hear about a problem than not. If any part of this website or the spa itself is difficult to use, email hello@murphymassageandspa.com or call (469) 380-6302. Tell us what happened and what you were trying to do, and we'll respond within two business days.

Note for the site owner: confirm each physical accessibility claim above matches your actual premises before launch, and remove anything that isn't accurate. Publishing an accessibility statement that overstates what a building offers creates real problems for the guests who rely on it.
